Patience urged as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi focuses on red-ball cricket
Rahul Dravid has asked everyone to be patient with young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he works on developing his Test cricket skills. The 15-year-old has already made a big impression in limited-overs cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he became the youngest centurion and won the Orange Cap. He also earned praise from cricket legends like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
However, Dravid believes it’s important for Sooryavanshi to balance his time between different formats of the game. While playing white-ball cricket in the IPL has been a great experience, he needs to focus on improving his red-ball skills as well. This is crucial for Test cricket to grow and stay relevant, according to Dravid.
Sooryavanshi made his IPL debut at just 14, hitting a six off Shardul Thakur on his first ball. Since then, he has achieved several milestones, including becoming the youngest player to make India’s senior team. Now, he faces another challenge: proving himself in red-ball cricket during the Duleep Trophy.
Dravid emphasized that Sooryavanshi is still very young and needs time to grow. He has played only eight first-class matches so far, which means he lacks experience in Test cricket. The upcoming Duleep Trophy will give him a chance to play more red-ball games, which Dravid believes is essential for his development.
Sooryavanshi’s focus on red-ball cricket could help him become a well-rounded player capable of excelling in all formats. As he takes this step, it’s important for everyone to support him and allow him the time he needs to succeed.
