Pedestrian Woes at Thiruvanmiyur Signal Due to Free Left Turns for Vehicles

The Thiruvanmiyur signal in Chennai presents challenges for pedestrians, as two free left turns for motorists have created a situation where fast-moving vehicles pose a risk to those crossing the junction. The absence of a stop for vehicles turning from West Avenue into Lattice Bridge Road towards Indira Nagar and for those moving from Lattice Bridge Road towards East Coast Road complicates pedestrian crossings.

Residents have expressed the need for pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, such as a foot over-bridge similar to the one at the Tidel Park junction, as well as an increased police presence at the junction to assist pedestrians during peak hours. The Tamil Nadu government had previously announced plans for a flyover in the area, which may alleviate traffic issues and improve pedestrian safety.
