Punjabi Lane Residents in Shillong Appeal to Amit Shah Amidst IED Blast Fallout

Following the recent IED explosion in Shillong’s Punjabi Lane, residents have reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking intervention. In a letter penned by Harijan Panchayat Committee secretary Gurjit Singh, the Sikh community expresses deep concern over the blast, fearing it was orchestrated to disrupt ongoing negotiations regarding their relocation.

The relocation process, initiated under the supervision of the high court, aims to address longstanding disputes surrounding the contested area. Singh emphasizes to Shah that the blast undermines peace efforts and urges immediate action against those issuing threats to restore tranquility. The letter underscores the need for upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the rights of all citizens, irrespective of ethnicity or religion.

The Sikh community’s plea highlights the broader issue of communal harmony and minority safety in Meghalaya, urging concerted efforts to address ongoing tensions and ensure the well-being of all residents.
