Railway Board Allocates Funds for Track Expansion Survey Projects in Tamil Nadu

The Railway Board has granted approval for a final location survey for the expansion of seven railway lines in Tamil Nadu, covering a total distance of 390 kilometers. A sum of ₹7.80 crore has been sanctioned for this survey work. Notably, the Arakkonam-Chengalpattu section is one of the key projects in this expansion plan, where a 68-kilometer stretch of track will be doubled, including the addition of a bypass track connecting Palur and Paranur. The location survey for this particular project is allocated ₹1.36 crore.

Additionally, six more projects will undergo final location surveys, encompassing the commissioning of third and fourth lines on various routes, including Arakkonam to Jollarpet, Gummidipoondi to Sullurpet, Sullurpet to Gudur, Korukkupet to Basin Bridge, Tiruchi-Karur, and Cuddalore port-Cuddalore railway junction lines. The expansion aims to improve railway services in the region and enhance connectivity. Currently, the Chengalpattu-Arakkonam section primarily serves freight traffic and has limited suburban passenger services.
