Rebuilt Village for Irula Community Inaugurated in Thirukazhukundram

The Nallamai Ramanathan Kuyilkuppam Nagar, a village rebuilt for 63 Irula families, was inaugurated by Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister for Rural, Cottage and Small Industries and Slum Clearance Board T.M. Anbarasan on Wednesday.

The project, undertaken by the Rotary Club of Madras Central, comprises 63 houses, each measuring 650 sq. ft., featuring two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, television, living room, and terrace. The village also provides essential amenities such as gas and water connections, along with utensils, mattresses, and provisions for the next month.

With a total cost of ₹7.5 crore, project chairman Abirami Ramanathan’s contribution amounted to ₹4 crore, while other Rotarians contributed the remaining funds. The result is a well-designed village with tiled pathways and street lights. The initiative began in 2018, and the families were granted non-transferable pattas, facilitating the realization of this housing project for the Irula community.
