SC Grants Bail to Mukhtar Ansari’s Son in Model Code of Conduct Case

The Supreme Court granted bail to Umar Ansari, son of the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, in a criminal case related to the violation of the model code of conduct during the 2022 assembly elections. Justices Hrishikesh Roy and P.K. Mishra directed Umar Ansari to appear before the trial court concerning the case.

The bail comes after the Supreme Court had earlier granted him protection from arrest on January 25. The Allahabad High Court had previously rejected Umar Ansari’s anticipatory bail application, stating that the offence was established based on the facts and circumstances of the case. An FIR was lodged against Umar Ansari, Abbas Ansari (SBSP candidate from Mau Sadar seat), and 150 others for alleged violation of the election code of conduct during a public meeting at Pahadpura ground in Mau district on March 3, 2022.
