Siddaramaiah Gets Court Injunction Against Controversial Video
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has secured an interim court order preventing the circulation of a video that he claims is part of a politically motivated campaign against him. The issue has led to a fresh political dispute in Karnataka, with Union Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy questioning Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar over his earlier remarks about sting operations.
The controversy has once again brought attention to the political relationship between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, two senior Congress leaders in Karnataka. Their leadership and power-sharing arrangements have remained important topics in the State’s political discussions.
Kumaraswamy has used the video controversy to raise questions about who was behind the alleged sting operation. He has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to find out how the video was recorded, who released it and whether anyone was involved in a political campaign against Siddaramaiah.
According to reports, the video was recorded in 2023 and was recently broadcast by local television channels. The footage reportedly contains discussions about unverified incidents from 2011. At that time, Siddaramaiah was the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, while B.S. Yediyurappa was serving as Chief Minister.
Following the circulation of the video, Siddaramaiah approached the court, seeking legal protection against its publication and distribution. On Tuesday, the 19th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru, presided over by Judge B. Pushpanjali, issued an interim order in his favour.
The court restrained the defendants from publishing, broadcasting, uploading, sharing or circulating the video through any platform. The order was passed ex parte, meaning it was issued without hearing the other side before granting the interim relief.
Siddaramaiah has described the circulation of the footage as an attempt to damage his public image and character. He has denied any connection with the allegations linked to the video and maintained that the issue is being used against him for political reasons.
He has also approached the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and requested a fair and impartial investigation into the matter. The request aims to establish the facts surrounding the video and its circulation.
Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy’s demand for a CBI investigation has added another dimension to the controversy. His remarks have also brought Shivakumar’s earlier warning about sting operations back into the political debate.
The controversy is expected to remain a subject of political discussion in Karnataka as questions continue over the video’s origins, its contents and the circumstances surrounding its release. The court’s interim order restricts the circulation of the footage while the legal proceedings continue.
