Sooryavanshi’s Breakthrough in Cricket
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently turned 15, has been praised by former India players Mohammad Kaif and Piyush Chawla for his impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They believe he should be quickly moved up to India’s T20 squad.
Sooryavanshi had a standout IPL debut last year, hitting six off his first ball and scoring a 35-ball century in another match. He also won the player of the tournament award during India’s Under-19 World Cup victory earlier this year. His recent performance included a 15-ball half-century that helped Rajasthan Royals win against Chennai Super Kings.
Kaif, known for his traditional approach to cricket, initially thought Sooryavanshi was getting too much attention too early. However, after seeing his consistent performance over the past year, he now feels the teenager is ready for higher-level competition. Kaif noted that Sooryavanshi can both entertain and score match-winning runs.
Chawla shared similar views, saying Sooryavanshi’s ability to score big hundreds across various formats makes him stand out. He expressed hope that the young player would be fast-tracked into the squad.
While former India player Ambati Rayudu praised Sooryavanshi’s talent and potential, he also acknowledged that joining the T20 team won’t be easy. The current Indian team is strong and has recently defended its World Cup title. Rayudu believes there are established players ahead of Sooryavanshi in the squad hierarchy, as teams are built with the next ICC competition in mind.
Sooryavanshi’s journey so far shows great promise, but breaking into India’s elite T20 squad will require more than just talent—it will need time and opportunity.
