Strong Earthquake Hits Southern Philippines, No Injuries
A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines early this morning. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 42 kilometers, with its epicentre about 47 kilometers from the coastal town of Manay.
People across the island felt strong tremors, causing panic in some areas. Local authorities, including police and disaster officials, reported that so far there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely and have urged residents, especially those near the coast, to remain alert and follow safety measures in case of aftershocks. PHIVOLCS also reminded people to stay away from buildings and structures that may have been weakened by the tremors.
The earthquake serves as a reminder that the Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for frequent seismic activity. Authorities continue to assess the situation to ensure the safety of local communities.
