Supreme Court to Pronounce Order on Arvind Kejriwal’s Interim Bail on May 10

The Supreme Court has informed the Directorate of Enforcement that it will pronounce its order on the grant of interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case on May 10. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, heading a three-judge Special Bench, conveyed this decision on May 9. The hearing on Mr. Kejriwal’s petition against his arrest has been divided into two parts.

During the hearing on May 7, the court discussed the question of interim bail, considering Mr. Kejriwal’s need to campaign for the general elections. The Directorate of Enforcement opposed the idea, stating that granting bail for campaigning would be a luxury. The court had suggested that if granted bail, Mr. Kejriwal should refrain from exercising official duties. Senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, representing Mr. Kejriwal, argued against imposing such restrictions on a sitting Chief Minister, proposing instead that Mr. Kejriwal would voluntarily stay away from official duties if granted bail.
