Suspended Delhi Official Accused of Rape Attempted to Flee Before Arrest

CCTV footage obtained by Delhi Police revealed that the suspended city government official, Premoday Khakha, accused of raping a minor girl, attempted to flee from his house along with his wife just hours before his arrest. The footage showed Khakha and his wife leaving their residence in Shakti Enclave, Burari, at 9:35 a.m. on Monday. The couple was reportedly in touch with their lawyer and heading to court to seek anticipatory bail.

Khakha, a 51-year-old deputy director in the Woman and Child Development Department of the Delhi government, is accused of repeatedly raping a class 12 girl between 2020 and 2021, after meeting her at a church. The victim, who had suffered from depression after her father’s death, stated that she was raped multiple times during her time with Khakha, who had posed as her guardian. Khakha and his wife were booked under POCSO Act. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal subsequently ordered Khakha’s suspension.
