Tamil Nadu All-Women SIT Formed for Veeramani POCSO Case Investigation

The Tamil Nadu Police have formed a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case involving Gem Group of Companies chairman R. Veeramani.

The SIT was formed on September 24 following instructions from Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal. The team has been tasked with examining the allegations and reviewing the investigation into the case.

All four members of the newly formed team are senior women police officers. The team includes Additional Commissioner P.C. Thenmozhi, Joint Commissioner Disha Mittal, Superintendent of Police J. Mutharasi and Superintendent of Police V.V. Geethanjali.

The formation of the SIT comes as the case has received increased attention following developments in the investigation. Authorities are examining evidence and statements connected with the allegations against Veeramani.

The case was initially investigated by the police, but questions were later raised about the handling of the investigation. A Special POCSO Court subsequently directed further investigation after rejecting an earlier closure report.

The new SIT is expected to review the available evidence, examine the investigation carried out so far and take further steps as required under the law. The team may also examine statements from alleged survivors and other individuals connected with the case.

The allegations against Veeramani remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings. The formation of the SIT is intended to ensure that the investigation is examined by a dedicated team of senior officers.

Further action will depend on the evidence collected by the SIT and the directions of the court handling the case.
