The Kuruvai farmers are in a critical situation about the Mettur dam water level

The Kuruvai farmers in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu are facing a critical situation as the water level in the Mettur dam, their main water source, has significantly decreased. These farmers cultivate Kuruvai crops on approximately 3.60 lakh acres of land and rely solely on water from the Mettur dam.

Manikandan, a Kuruvai farmer, expressed concerns about the declining water table in the dam, stating that while farmers were initially happy when water was released on June 12, they are now worried about the situation. The decrease in water availability poses a significant risk to the livelihoods of Kuruvai farmers and their agricultural activities.

Efforts are needed to address this issue and ensure sustainable water management for agricultural purposes in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu.
