TN Minister S. Muthusamy decided to shut down 500 liquor shops

Tamil Nadu Excise and Prohibition Minister S. Muthusamy announced on Tuesday that the state government plans to shut down 500 liquor shops. These shops are currently managed by the government-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC).

The decision aims to address concerns related to alcohol consumption and promote public health and safety. The closure of these shops will be implemented gradually and is part of the government’s efforts to regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol. The move is expected to have a significant impact on the availability and accessibility of liquor in the state.

The government is also exploring alternative measures to promote responsible drinking and discourage excessive alcohol consumption. The decision has received mixed reactions from different sections of society, and the implementation process will be closely monitored.
