Tragedy at Bargi Dam Cruise Boat

The death toll in the Bargi Dam boat tragedy has risen to nine after rescue teams recovered five more bodies on Friday (May 1, 2026). The accident happened near the Bargi Dam reservoir close to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, when a cruise boat carrying passengers capsized.

According to officials, search and rescue operations continued through the night after the incident. Earlier, four bodies were recovered on Thursday. On Friday morning, rescuers found five more victims from the water, bringing the total number of dead to nine.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Minister Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi spoke to PTI Videos and confirmed the updated figures. He said that rescue teams were working continuously in the area to search for missing people and ensure no one is left trapped in the reservoir.

Authorities have not yet confirmed how many people were on board the boat at the time of the accident. The exact cause of the capsizing is also still under investigation.

Local administration, police, and disaster response teams are still operating at the site. The government is expected to announce further details after the rescue and recovery operations are completed.
