TVK Awaits Majority Amid Political Tension

Tamil Nadu’s political uncertainty continues to grow as the battle to form the next government has now entered its fourth day after the 2026 Assembly election results.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay, is still working to secure enough support to officially take power.
TVK won 108 seats in the election, making it the single largest party in the state.
With the support of Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), TVK’s total support has increased to 116 seats.
However, the party still needs at least two more MLAs to comfortably secure a majority.
At the center of attention is Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), led by Thol Thirumavalavan, which holds the crucial numbers that could determine the final outcome.
For the past two days, VCK has delayed making an official announcement regarding its support, despite earlier indications that it may align with the broader anti-DMK/AIADMK coalition.
This delay has increased suspense and confusion in Tamil Nadu politics.
Meanwhile, Governor R V Arlekar has not yet invited TVK to form the government, adding to criticism and uncertainty over the constitutional process.
If TVK fails to prove majority support soon, concerns are rising that Tamil Nadu could face Governor’s rule until a stable government is established.
As coalition negotiations continue and political strategies intensify, the state remains in a tense wait, with the final decision likely to shape Tamil Nadu’s political future in a historic way.
