UNICEF Chief Describes Haiti as a Scene from “Mad Max”

In a grim assessment of Haiti’s situation, UNICEF executive director Catherine Russell likened the country’s conditions to a dystopian landscape akin to the film “Mad Max.” Russell highlighted the severe challenges faced by Haitians, including widespread hunger, malnutrition, and the near-collapse of basic services amidst gang control over key areas.

The situation, she noted, represents the worst seen in decades, with aid efforts hampered by security concerns and logistical hurdles. Gangs have even targeted humanitarian shipments, exacerbating the suffering of vulnerable populations. Against this backdrop, the U.S. Embassy announced plans to evacuate its citizens from Haiti, reflecting escalating concerns about safety and stability in the country.
