US Aided Mexico in El Mencho Operation
The White House has confirmed that the United States provided intelligence support to the Mexican government for an operation that led to the killing of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” in Jalisco.
In a post on X, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the United States assisted Mexican authorities by sharing intelligence for the operation. The mission was carried out in Talpalpa, a town in the state of Jalisco.
According to the statement, the operation resulted in the elimination of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most powerful and violent criminal groups in Mexico.
Officials said the support from the United States was part of ongoing cooperation between the two countries to fight organised crime and drug trafficking. Intelligence sharing often includes information about the location and movement of wanted individuals.
The Mexican government has not released full details about how the operation was conducted, but authorities described it as a major blow to organised crime networks in the region.
Security experts say the killing of such a high-profile cartel leader could have a significant impact on the criminal landscape in Mexico. However, they also caution that power struggles within the cartel or among rival groups may follow.
The development highlights continued collaboration between the United States and Mexico in tackling cross-border crime and drug trafficking.
