Australia Beats India in FIH Pro League Shootout

The Indian men’s hockey team lost to Australia in a close match in the FIH Pro League at the Tasmania Hockey Centre yesterday.

The match ended 2-2 in regular time, but Australia won 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

India started well. Amit Rohidas scored the first goal in the 15th minute to give India the lead. Later, Jugraj Singh added another goal in the 43rd minute, making it 2-0 for India.

However, Australia fought back strongly. Joel Rintala scored two goals — one in the 47th minute and another in the 56th minute — to level the score at 2-2. Australia, ranked world number three, kept the pressure on India in the final minutes.

Since the score was tied at full-time, the match went into a penalty shootout. Both teams scored their first four attempts. In the final round, India’s Aditya Lalage missed his chance after Australian goalkeeper Jed Snowden made an important save. This gave Australia a hard-earned victory.
