Vulnerability Mapping Initiatives Accelerate for Chennai Lok Sabha Elections

With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, the Returning Officers and Deputy Commissioners of Police in Chennai district are intensifying efforts to identify clusters vulnerable to voter intimidation. Currently, 579 vulnerable polling stations have been identified, and the mapping exercise aims to uncover more clusters within the next two days. Chennai District Election Office has already initiated the randomization of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), and polling personnel, with further training sessions scheduled for March 24.

Additionally, election officials are coordinating with political parties to ensure proper permissions for campaign activities and are actively addressing any violations of the model code of conduct. Strengthening monitoring mechanisms, such as involving expenditure observers and collaborating with law enforcement agencies, underscores the commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections in the district. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations by contacting designated helpline numbers provided by the Election Commission.
