Webster Welcomes Bangladesh Tests, No Rivalry with Green

Beau Webster is eager to prove his place in Australia’s Test team ahead of the first match against Bangladesh. The all-rounder has shown he can be a reliable number six batter since his debut last year and believes playing alongside Cameron Green will only benefit the team.

Webster, 32, made his Test debut against India in early 2022. In eight Tests, he scored 452 runs at an average of 41.09, including five half-centuries, and took 11 wickets with his medium pace and spin bowling. He has had moments of success, such as top-scoring in Australia’s loss to South Africa in the World Test Championship Final and playing a key role in their series win over the West Indies.

However, he faced criticism after the Ashes series when selectors chose others like Green, Josh Inglis, and Usman Khawaja. Despite this, Webster was recalled for the final Test against England, where he scored an unbeaten 71 and took three wickets, boosting his confidence.

Webster believes the experience since his debut has shown he belongs in the top XI. He sees no issue with playing alongside Green, saying their combined skills add more options for the captain. Both can bat and bowl, making them versatile assets for the team.

Australia’s Test squad for the Bangladesh series includes 13 players, and Webster is focused on contributing in all areas of the game to stay in the XI.

The first Test against Bangladesh will be played from August 13-17 in Darwin, with the second match scheduled for August 22-26 in Mackay.
