Pakistan Denting J&K Tourism, Says Deputy CM

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack while speaking at the Republic Day function held in Srinagar on Monday (January 26, 2026). He remembered those who lost their lives and expressed sympathy for their families.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Choudhary said the victims had come from different parts of the country to visit the Union Territory. He said the attack caused great pain and suffering to many families.

He accused Pakistan of trying to disturb peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, such attacks are aimed at harming the region’s economy and damaging its growing tourism industry.

“Pakistan has inflicted wounds on us. Its actions resulted in the loss of innocent lives and affected the economy of J&K. It also hurt the tourism sector,” Mr. Choudhary said while referring to the Pahalgam attack.

He added that tourism is an important source of income for many people in Jammu and Kashmir. Any attempt to create fear among visitors directly impacts the livelihoods of local residents.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said he hopes the Centre will soon restore Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed confidence that full statehood would help in better development, governance, and growth of the region.

The Republic Day event in Srinagar included flag hoisting, cultural programmes, and tributes to security personnel and civilians who lost their lives in various incidents.
