Government Sets Minimum Import Price for Antibiotic Ingredients

The government has imposed a minimum import price on three important ingredients used in making penicillin-class antibiotics. These ingredients are Penicillin G-potassium, 6-APA, and Amoxicillin Trihydrate, according to an official notification.

The move means that these ingredients cannot be imported below a certain price, helping regulate the market and prevent cheap imports from affecting domestic production.

The three ingredients have been placed under a restricted category for one year, which means importers will need special permission to bring them into the country during this period.

Officials said this step is aimed at protecting local manufacturers and ensuring a stable supply of essential antibiotic medicines in India.
