Maritime Attacks Raise Tensions in Persian Gulf

Tensions in West Asia have increased following a reported maritime attack in the Persian Gulf, involving commercial ships near Iraq and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued an urgent “ATTACK” warning after a serious security incident in the northern Gulf. According to the agency, the incident took place about five nautical miles south of Al Basrah. The report was sent to UKMTO by a company security officer, and the agency advised all vessels in the area to exercise extreme caution. Ships were also urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity while passing through the region.

In a separate incident, UKMTO reported that a container ship was hit by an unknown projectile about 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali. The strike caused a small fire on board, but fortunately, all crew members were safe.

These incidents highlight the growing maritime security risks in the Persian Gulf, a key route for global oil and trade shipments. Authorities have called on shipping companies and crews to be vigilant, as tensions in the region could affect commercial vessel operations and international trade.

The situation continues to be monitored closely by regional authorities and international maritime agencies, as the safety of ships and crew remains a top concern.
