Islamic Group Urges UN to End Israeli Occupation Beyond Gaza Ceasefire
The Islamic Group has asked the UN Security Council to take action beyond the recent Gaza ceasefire agreement and work towards ending Israel’s control over Palestinian territories completely. The group criticized what it described as increasing attacks by Israel on Palestinian civilians, holy sites, and neighboring countries.
Speaking at a UN meeting on the Middle East, Turkey’s representative Ahmet Yildiz, who leads the Islamic Group, welcomed the ceasefire deal for Gaza and its second phase as per Security Council resolution 2803. However, he noted that Israeli actions have grown more severe, including violent attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as recent plans to build new settlements in Palestinian areas.
The Islamic Group also emphasized the need for Israel to fully withdraw from all occupied Arab lands, including Syria’s Golan region. It condemned Israel’s violations in Syria since December 2024, which breach international law and agreements like the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The group praised the end of fighting in Lebanon and reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s independence.
In summary, the Islamic Group urged the UN to address not just Gaza but all areas where Israel occupies Arab territories, calling for compliance with Security Council resolutions and respect for international law.
