US Senate Rejects Plan to End Cuba Blockade

The US Senate Republicans voted against a proposal by Democrats that would have required President Donald Trump to end the US energy blockade on Cuba unless Congress approved it. This vote showed how Republicans continue to support Trump as he takes unilateral action in global conflicts, including Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba.

Democrats had pushed for similar measures before, aiming to limit Trump’s ability to use military force without congressional approval. However, none of their efforts succeeded. The latest proposal focused on Cuba and would have forced Trump to seek Congress’ permission before attacking the island. Republicans argued that the resolution was unnecessary since the US is not at war with Cuba.

Cuba is facing severe water and power shortages due to US sanctions and disruptions in oil shipments from Venezuela. The Trump administration is urging Cuba’s leaders to release political prisoners, stop political repression, and reform its struggling economy.
