Germany Calls for Stronger European Defense Amid US Troop Cutback
Boris Pistorius has called on Europe to strengthen its military defences after reports that the United States plans to reduce its troop presence in Germany. The Pentagon recently announced plans to withdraw around 5,000 American soldiers from Germany, raising concerns about Europe’s future security.
Pistorius said European countries must take more responsibility for protecting themselves as global tensions continue to grow. For many years, U.S. troops stationed in Germany have played an important role in supporting NATO and maintaining stability across Europe. However, he warned that Europe can no longer depend as heavily on American military support as it has in the past.
The planned reduction comes at a time of rising tensions between the United States and Europe over issues such as the conflict with Iran and ongoing trade disagreements. These disputes have increased uncertainty about long-term U.S. military commitments in Europe.
Security experts believe this move may signal a broader shift in U.S. foreign policy, with Washington potentially reducing its defence role in Europe over time. This possibility has prompted European leaders to rethink their military strategies and increase cooperation among European nations.
Pistorius stressed that stronger defence investments, better military coordination, and closer partnerships within Europe are necessary to respond to modern threats. His comments reflect growing concerns that Europe must become more self-reliant in safeguarding its security as international alliances continue to evolve.
