Bumrah Struggles as Mumbai Triumphs in IPL 2026

Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 5 (ANI): The Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a crucial six-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2026 match at the Mumbai ground, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Despite being one loss away from elimination, MI’s biggest issue remains Jasprit Bumrah’s poor form with the ball. The pace ace has only taken three wickets this season, bowled in all 10 matches, and struggled with an economy rate of 8.89 and an average of 109.67.

On Star Sports’ ‘Amul Cricket Live’, Sunil Gavaskar pointed out Bumrah’s difficulties. He noted that Bumrah is experimenting too much, leading to no-balls and a drop in pace. His slower ball length has become fuller, and his line is drifting away from the stumps. Gavaskar advised Bumrah to return to his basics, as overcomplicating his bowling is hurting his rhythm.

In the match, MI chose to bowl first. LSG’s batting was spearheaded by Nicholas Pooran (63 off 21 balls), Mitchell Marsh (44 off 25 balls), and Himmat Singh (40 in 31 balls), helping them reach 228/5. However, MI’s partnership of 143 between Ryan Rickelton (83 in 32 balls) and Rohit Sharma (84 in 44 balls) made the chase seem easy, completing it in 18.4 overs.

MI now sit ninth with three wins, while LSG are at the bottom with two wins. (ANI)
