Amit Shah Announces Seizure of First Captagon Consignment

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday, May 16, 2026, that India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made a major drug seizure involving Captagon tablets, a dangerous illegal drug often referred to as the “Jihadi drug.” The seized shipment is valued at around ₹182 crore.

In a post on social media, Amit Shah said the operation is a significant success in the government’s ongoing campaign to build a “Drug-Free India” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised the NCB for its strong action against drug trafficking networks.

The operation, named “RAGEPILL,” led to the seizure of a large consignment of Captagon tablets that were reportedly intended for markets in the Middle East. Officials believe the drugs were part of an international trafficking network.

During the operation, authorities also arrested a foreign national who is suspected to be involved in the smuggling attempt. Investigators are now looking into the wider network behind the shipment to identify others connected to the case.

Amit Shah stressed that the government is committed to taking strict action against drug smuggling, whether drugs are entering India, leaving the country, or using India as a transit route. He said that no drug trafficking activity will be allowed to operate freely.

He also appreciated the efforts of the NCB officers for successfully intercepting the shipment and preventing a large quantity of illegal drugs from reaching the international market. Officials say such operations are part of a larger crackdown on organized drug networks.
