5th National Physical Disability Elite Cricket Tournament Begins in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, Karnataka [India], May 18 (ANI): The 5th National Physical Disability Elite Cricket Tournament has started in Bengaluru. Organized by the Karnataka State Divyang Cricket Association, the event began with colorful cultural performances and a lively atmosphere.
Top teams from across India are participating in this prestigious tournament, giving players a chance to showcase their skills on a national stage. The opening ceremony featured distinguished guests, including PCCAI President Surendra Lohiya, DCCI General Secretary Ravikant Chauhan, Paralympic Chairman Satyanarayana, and others. The event was officially started with the lighting of a lamp.
Ravikant Chauhan, DCCI Secretary, mentioned that while DCCI has historically hosted national tournaments with 24 teams, this year’s Elite Tournament includes only the top 12 teams to increase competition and quality. A separate Plate Group competition will also take place for the remaining 12 teams. The main goal is to identify talented players who can represent India internationally in the future.
Chauhan highlighted that DCCI is focused on improving facilities for players. To motivate athletes, “Man of the Series” winners are awarded cars and scooters as prizes. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping players reach international standards through better training and support.
PCCAI President Surendra Lohiya shared that his organization has supported disability cricket for 15 years, providing financial assistance to players. So far, over ₹30.36 lakh has been awarded as “Man of the Match” prizes in national tournaments, with each winner receiving ₹11,000. The organization has also distributed more than ₹87 lakh in prize money.
Satyanarayana, Paralympic Chairman, noted that efforts are underway to include Mixed Disability Cricket in the Asian Para Games and Paralympic Games through collaboration between PCCAI and DCCI. He expressed optimism about disability cricket gaining international recognition.
The opening ceremony also honored former players and promoted sportsmanship and unity. Organizers thanked all participants and supporters for their contributions, wishing the tournament’s success. (ANI)
