Funny Fan Tells Steve Smith to Stop Being Overly Careful

A fan attending the first Test against Bangladesh had a funny response for Steve Smith after he stopped play because of an issue with the sight screen in Darwin on Thursday. The fan, clearly unimpressed, shouted at Smith in a video shared by Fox Cricket on Instagram. “Just hit the damn thing, Smudge. Stop being a princess,” the fan said. “You’re not bigger than the game, Steve. Deal with it.”

In the match, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers gave Australia a tough time. After the first session, Australia was struggling at 74/4. Hasan Mahmud, one of Bangladesh’s bowlers, took two crucial wickets, dismissing openers Travis Head and Jake Weatherald after they had given Australia a strong start with their partnership worth 45 runs.

During the second session, more Australian wickets fell, but Smith remained steady. He hit his 45th Test fifty and was still batting when tea was called. At that point, Australia was at 183/8, with Smith (67) and Nathan Lyon (0) at the crease.

Smith also tied a record held by Steve Waugh for the most Test scores of 50 or more runs for Australia. Smith has now reached 82 such scores, including 37 centuries and 45 fifties. The highest number of fifty-plus scores in Tests for Australia is held by Ricky Ponting with 103 such scores.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, Hasan Mahmud (4/49) and Taskin Ahmed (2/46), performed exceptionally well.
