Bangladesh Surges in WTC Standings After Historic Win
Bangladesh secured a historic victory over Australia in the first Test of their series, boosting their position in the updated World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table. This win marked Bangladesh’s first Test triumph on Australian soil in 23 years and their second overall against Australia in seven encounters. Leading the team, Najmul Hossain Shanto guided Bangladesh to a 1-0 series lead.
Chasing 57 runs in the final innings, Bangladesh lost only one wicket en route to victory. Key contributors to this success were Hasan Mahmud with impressive figures of 6/55 and 3/56, Tanzid Hasan Tamim who scored an century, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz who also contributed a century.
This win placed Bangladesh in fourth position in the WTC standings. Their points percentage (PCT) rose from 58.33 to 66.67, while Australia’s PCT dropped slightly to 77.77, keeping them at the top despite the loss.
Defending champions South Africa remain second with a PCT of 75.00, followed by New Zealand in third place with a PCT of 72.22 after six matches. India and Sri Lanka are currently ranked fifth and sixth respectively, with PCTs of 48.15 and 41.67.
England, Pakistan, and the West Indies occupy the lower positions in the WTC standings.
