Rishabh Criticized for Decision-Making

Mohammad Kaif, a former Indian cricketer, recently criticized Rishabh Pant for his decision-making during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. The criticism came after Pant was dismissed early in the innings during rain-affected play. India lost seven wickets quickly on that day, ending at 460/9.

Pant, batting on 27 overnight, lasted just four deliveries before being caught off debutant Keshara Nuwantha’s bowling. He attempted an aggressive shot, resulting in a catch by Sonal Dinusha at wide long-on for 39 runs.

Kaif, speaking on Sony Sports, questioned Pant’s approach to the new ball. “He jumped three times in that over,” Kaif said. “Common sense would mean playing a cut shot and waiting for the first few balls of the new ball before attacking.” Kaif added that Pant lacked cricketing logic and common sense.

In response, Indian bowlers performed well on day three. Sri Lanka fell to 99/5 at lunch after India’s strong innings of 462. Mohammed Siraj, Manav Suthar, and Kuldeep Yadav took crucial wickets early in the day.

Sri Lanka faced more trouble as Suthar broke their third-wicket partnership. Kamindu Mendis and Lahiru Udara offered some resistance but were unable to steady their team’s innings.

India had a solid first innings, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring 167 runs. Prabath Jayasuriya was Sri Lanka’s best bowler with figures of 4/109.

Play resumed on Monday after losing two full sessions to rain the previous day.
