Golconda Masters: Sharma and Malik Lead at Halfway Point

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 3 (ANI): Vishesh Sharma of Hyderabad and Amardeep Malik from Noida are tied for the lead after two rounds of the ₹1 crore Telangana Golconda Masters. Both golfers are at 14-under par with a total score of 126.

Vishesh, who is just 19, started strong with a course-record 10-under 60 in the first round. He followed it up with a four-under 66 in the second round, including six birdies and two bogeys. The back nine was particularly good for him, while the front nine proved challenging.

Amardeep, who began the day in third place, shot a five-under 65. Despite feeling his ball striking wasn’t as consistent as his first round, he managed to climb into a tie for first with six birdies and one bogey on the difficult par-five 17th hole.

Dhruv Sheoran dropped from joint first to third after scoring a three-under 67, which included six birdies but also a double bogey on the final hole. Honey Baisoya stayed in fourth place with two consecutive six-under 64s.

Bangladesh’s Md Akbar Hossain and Chandigarh’s Angad Cheema shared fifth place at seven-under par.

Vishesh noted that adapting to changing course conditions was key, as morning rain softened the fairways while stronger winds and tricky flag positions required adjustments. His local knowledge helped him navigate tough areas.

Amardeep acknowledged his opening score tempted him to play aggressively but admitted the course demands precision rather than power.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Arjunveer Shishir became the youngest player to make the cut on the DP World PGTI Tour.

The cut fell at one-over par, with 59 players advancing to the final two rounds. The tournament also saw a record three holes-in-one in a single day.

This event is part of the Race to DP World India Championship, which determines the top player and qualifiers for the season-ending championship. (ANI)
