Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future Secure, Ajit Agarkar Absent from BCCI Meeting

Rohit Sharma’s place in India’s ODI team is safe, according to the BCCI. After a review meeting, there was no discussion about removing him from the squad. Rohit, a two-time ICC Cricket World Cup-winning captain, currently plays only in ODIs after retiring from Tests and T20Is.

Rumors about Rohit’s retirement surfaced during India’s ODI series against England. A report suggested it could be his last tour with the national team. However, Rohit silenced critics by scoring 138 runs in the final match of the series, despite India losing.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “He is performing exceptionally well in all matches. Why are there speculations? In the last game against England, he scored 138 runs. There’s no reason for such rumors.”

Ajit Agarkar, chairman of selectors, was absent from the meeting. The meeting included Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and COE director VVS Laxman.

When asked about discussions on Agarkar’s future, Saikia said no talks were held about extending his contract. Agarkar’s current term began in 2023 and ends in September 2026.

Saikia explained Agarkar’s absence: “He was out of town and couldn’t join the meeting due to short notice. Despite our efforts, he couldn’t attend online because of his location.”
