Gautam Gambhir Decides Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Participation

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir will decide whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Tilak Varma will play in the Duleep Trophy final. The match is between East Zone and South Zone, starting on September 6 in Chennai. Both players were key to their teams reaching the semifinals.

Sooryavanshi scored 92 and 40 for East Zone against Central Zone, while Tilak’s unbeaten 116 and 51 helped South Zone beat West Zone. Both are part of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games in Japan.

The Indian team will gather in Delhi on September 9 or 10. If Gambhir wants them to join immediately, they won’t play the final. However, if he allows them to play first and report later, they can participate. India’s T20I schedule is busy in September, while their ODI series against West Indies starts at the end of the month.

Players like Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, and Devdutt Paddikal won’t get much game time soon. Rahul is likely to be picked for the ODIs. The selectors want any available India players to join the Duleep Trophy final. Sooryavanshi, Varma, and another player last played on August 27; their next match would be against West Indies in September.

Padikkal may play in India A series since he’s not part of the ODI squad. If possible, selectors want him to join the Duleep Trophy final as well.
