Dolphins Lose Star Running Back DeVon Achane to Season-Ending Injury

The Miami Dolphins showed some improvement despite losing 24-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but the team suffered a major setback when star running back De’Von Achane tore his ACL and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Achane suffered the injury during an 11-yard run in the first quarter. He got up after the tackle and walked to the sideline on his own before being evaluated by the Dolphins’ medical staff.

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley expressed his disappointment over the injury and praised Achane’s development as a leader and teammate.

Achane had been expected to play a major role in Miami’s offense this season. He had already recorded 34 carries for 127 yards before the injury and was involved in four of the Dolphins’ first five offensive plays on Sunday.

The injury is a significant blow for Miami, as Achane has become one of the team’s most important offensive players. He ranks seventh on the Dolphins’ all-time rushing list despite having played only 47 games. Last season, he led the NFL with an average of 5.7 yards per carry.

The Dolphins are now expected to rely more heavily on Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon at running back. Gordon stepped into a larger role against Kansas City, finishing with 17 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Malik Washington was also used in the backfield.

Despite losing Achane, Miami continued to focus on its running game against Kansas City. Hafley indicated that the team’s approach would remain focused on controlling the ball and limiting opportunities for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Miami also struggled with penalties at important moments. An illegal shift erased a touchdown, while other penalties helped extend a Kansas City scoring drive.

Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez provided one of the Dolphins’ highlights, intercepting Mahomes in the second quarter. He also recorded three tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

The Dolphins will next travel to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, with the team hoping to recover from the injury setback and improve its performance.
