Cockroach Janata Party Demands Election Commissioner’s Resignation

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced plans to begin a nationwide protest on October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In an interview with South First, CJP’s South India In-Charge Vijay Reddy Mallangi said the party wants the protest to focus on concerns surrounding the Election Commission of India and the electoral-roll revision process. The first protest is planned in Mumbai, followed by programmes in other cities, according to the party.

CJP has argued that Gyanesh Kumar should step down as part of what the party describes as an effort to improve accountability within the Election Commission. Mallangi also called for an independent inquiry into the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and wider electoral reforms. These are the party’s demands and allegations, rather than established findings against the Chief Election Commissioner.

The party has also called for changes to the law governing the appointment of Election Commission officials. CJP says the selection process should be reviewed to strengthen the independence of the poll body.

The planned protest comes amid wider political debate over electoral-roll revisions and the functioning of the Election Commission. Reports have also highlighted disagreements involving Election Commissioners over some decisions related to voter-list revisions.

CJP says its campaign will seek support from political parties, student groups and civil society organisations. The party is also working to expand its presence across southern states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
