Xavier Becerra Defeats Steve Hilton to Become California’s First Latino Governor in 150 Years

Democrat Xavier Becerra has won the race to become California’s next governor, defeating Republican candidate Steve Hilton. His victory marks a historic moment, as he will become the state’s first Latino governor in more than 150 years.

The Associated Press announced Becerra as the winner shortly after polling stations closed on Tuesday. His victory is considered a major milestone in California’s political history.

Becerra’s win makes him the first Latino to hold California’s highest political office since before the 1870s. The result represents an important moment for the Latino community and adds a new chapter to the state’s political history.

His victory over Hilton also highlights the outcome of a closely watched election in one of the most important states in the United States.

Becerra’s election is expected to bring renewed attention to Latino representation in American politics. His historic win could also inspire more Latino candidates to seek leadership positions in the future.
