10 Years of PMJJBY: Affordable Life Insurance Brings Big Relief to Families in Jharkhand, Say Beneficiaries
The Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) has completed 10 years, and many families in Jharkhand say the scheme has helped them during difficult times. This low-cost life insurance plan gives financial support to families who lose their main earning member.
Launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PMJJBY provides life insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh for just ₹330 per year. Banks and insurance companies work together to run the scheme, and the government encourages people to join it through awareness drives.
Many people in Jharkhand, especially in rural and low-income areas, have joined the scheme. Families who received the insurance money after the death of a loved one say the support helped them cover basic needs, pay off loans, or take care of children’s education.
“My husband died suddenly last year,” said Sunita Devi from Ranchi. “We had very little savings, but because he joined PMJJBY, I received ₹2 lakh. I used the money to pay school fees and buy food for my children.”
Officials say the scheme plays a big role in reducing the financial stress on poor families. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and other insurers process claims quickly and try to make the process simple.
The state government of Jharkhand also works with banks to spread information about the scheme. Volunteers visit villages and help people fill out forms, open bank accounts, and understand the benefits of life insurance.
So far, lakhs of people in Jharkhand have enrolled in PMJJBY. Banks have helped families receive claims without long delays, and many more people continue to sign up every year.
The central government has called the scheme a success and plans to reach even more people in the coming years. As more families learn about the benefits, PMJJBY continues to give them a sense of financial safety and peace of mind.
