Aerohub Mall at Chennai Airport Retail Outlets Delayed for Six Months

Passengers and locals heading to Aerohub Mall at Chennai airport for shopping may be disappointed to find that many outlets remain closed. The situation is expected to continue for at least another six months as new retail outlets are unlikely to open soon.

Most of the mall’s space remains empty, as a consultant has yet to be appointed. AAI officials have announced plans to hire a consultant to help increase foot traffic, attract more outlets, and enhance passenger experience. Bids for this role will be reviewed in the coming days, with the contract awarded within a couple of weeks. Once selected, the consultant will present a proposal within 45 days to two months. After approval, new outlets could open within six months.

The ₹250-crore Aerohub facility spans 17,230 square meters and was opened three years ago with East and West wings. Recently, the East wing has looked deserted, with only a few shops, a food court, and a multiplex operating. Many stores have closed after AAI terminated its agreement with the previous concessionaire.

Passengers like Vidya from Mumbai expressed disappointment at the lack of open shops. She noted that while waiting to eat before departure, she would have liked to explore some stores as well. The expectation is that such a large facility should be fully operational.
