Asian Games 2026: Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma Win Sailing Bronze
Indian sailors Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma initially believed they had narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the women’s skiff event at the Asian Games in Aichi. However, a later disqualification changed the final standings and handed India the bronze medal.
The competition was decided based on net points accumulated across multiple races. Japan finished first with 14 net points to win gold, while Hong Kong, China, secured silver with 18 points. India finished with 24 net points, initially placing fourth.
China’s Xiaoyu Hu and Yuyue Sun had originally taken third place with 28 net points. However, the Chinese pair were later disqualified, allowing India to move up to third place and claim the bronze medal.
The women’s skiff races were held at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor. India also enjoyed success in the men’s event on the same day, with Manu Francis and Prince Kurisinkal Noble winning silver.
Their result marked India’s first Asian Games silver medal in the men’s skiff category. Hong Kong, China, won bronze in the event.
With medals in both the men’s and women’s skiff events, India secured two sailing medals on Thursday, while the remaining sailing competitions at the Aichi Games were still underway.
