Autorickshaw Driver Takes His Own Life After Police Inquiry in Chennai

A 40-year-old autorickshaw driver, Ruban, tragically ended his life in Mangadu, Chennai, after being called in for an inquiry by the police regarding settlement dues for the purchase of vehicles. Ruban left a video message alleging improper police conduct during the inquiry and blamed a specific officer. The investigation revealed that Ruban had bought two four-wheelers from Gajendran after paying an advance of ₹1 lakh but had sold the vehicles to a third party before settling the remaining amount of ₹3.17 lakh with the seller.

Gajendran lodged a complaint with the Ambattur police, leading to the inquiry. While the Avadi police maintained they followed the due process of the law during the inquiry, an independent inquiry by an executive magistrate in Sriperumbudur has been recommended to ensure impartiality.
