Bhuvneshwar Kumar Eyes India Return
Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has once again attracted attention after producing impressive performances in the last two IPL seasons. His 45 wickets have led to growing calls for the experienced pacer to be considered for a return to the Indian team.
The 36-year-old bowler played an important role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their successful IPL campaigns in 2025 and 2026. He took 17 wickets in the 2025 season and followed it up with an impressive 28 wickets in 2026.
One of Bhuvneshwar’s biggest strengths has always been his ability to bowl effectively with both the new and old ball. His control, movement and experience have helped him succeed even as conditions change during a match. His recent IPL performances have once again shown that he can still make an impact at the highest level.
Despite his strong form in domestic and franchise cricket, Bhuvneshwar has not played for India since 2022. His possible return has become a topic of discussion as India prepares for the next ODI World Cup.
India’s pace bowling department has faced several challenges, including injuries and inconsistent performances. Jasprit Bumrah has also faced fitness and workload concerns at different times. Younger fast bowlers such as Gurnoor Brar and Harshit Rana are being given opportunities, but they have limited experience compared with Bhuvneshwar.
The experienced pacer, however, said he is not desperate to prove himself or force his way back into the national team. Bhuvneshwar explained that he is simply concentrating on his cricket and would be happy if another opportunity comes his way.
He also revealed that he had once received a call suggesting that he could be part of India’s upcoming series. He hoped that the opportunity would eventually come, but it did not happen.
Bhuvneshwar has also reflected on his international career and his last World Cup appearance in 2022. He said he understood at that time that it could potentially be his final appearance at a major global tournament.
While speaking with his wife Nupur, he discussed how selectors often start thinking about the future after a disappointing tournament. He said that such a decision is understandable because teams need to prepare younger players and build a squad for future competitions.
Nevertheless, Bhuvneshwar’s recent performances have reopened the debate about whether experience should have a greater role in India’s pace attack. His ability to handle pressure and bowl in different phases of an innings could provide India with an additional option.
Bhuvneshwar has an impressive international record, with 63 Test wickets, 141 ODI wickets and 90 T20I wickets. His experience across all three formats makes him one of India’s most experienced fast bowlers.
Whether he gets another opportunity with India remains uncertain. For now, Bhuvneshwar appears focused on performing well whenever he gets the chance. If the selectors decide to recall him, his experience and recent IPL form could make him a valuable addition to India’s bowling attack.
