Boost Silver Refining and Recycling in India

Silver is not only a precious metal but also an important material for industry and the energy transition, according to the Global Trade Research Institute (GTRI).

GTRI said that India should focus on processing silver by taking several steps:

Secure long-term mining supplies from overseas

Increase domestic refining and recycling

Reduce dependence on imported finished silver

Diversify sources of silver imports

The institute also noted that China is currently the world’s largest processor of silver, highlighting the need for India to strengthen its own silver processing capabilities.

By following these steps, India can improve its silver security, support industrial growth, and play a bigger role in the global energy transition.
