Exciting Start to West Indies Cricket League
The West Indies Championship kicked off with thrilling action in Antigua and Jamaica. Matches across the region saw seven centuries, three five-wicket hauls, and an impressive ten-wicket match haul.
Kevin Wickham of Barbados made history by scoring two centuries for Barbados Pride against Jamaica Scorpions. His first innings score was 153, and he remained unbeaten at 108 in the second. This marked his place as one of only three Barbadians to achieve twin tons in a regional match.
Jamaica Scorpions fought back with opener John Campbell hitting 126 and Kirk McKenzie scoring an unbeaten 135. Their partnership of 242 runs led Jamaica to a seven-wicket win, chasing down 324.
In Antigua, Guyana Harpy Eagles secured a four-wicket victory over Windward Islands Volcanoes thanks to Gudakesh Motie’s match-winning bowling. He took 10 wickets for just 119 runs. Sunil Ambris’s century kept the Volcanoes in the game, but Motie’s performance proved decisive.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Force dominated Leeward Islands Hurricanes with an innings and 271-run win. Amir Jangoo scored an unbeaten 203, his second double century, while Terrance Hinds added 135 to their total of 507. The Hurricanes struggled to recover from being bowled out for just 138.
The next round of matches will take place on Sunday, April 19.
