Brewers Break Drought with Big Win
SAL FRElick hit a solo home run to end Milwaukee’s seven-game homer drought and Tyler Black went 3 for 5 with three RBIs as the Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-2 on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee scored eight runs in the sixth inning, breaking the game wide open. Reliever Andrew Hoffmann allowed all of them, raising his ERA from 2.38 to 8.49.
Arizona’s Ildemaro Vargas had a single in the eighth inning and has hit safely in all 21 games this season. If we include his last three games from 2025 (a likely error), he would have a 24-game hitting streak, tying the fourth-longest single-season streak in Diamondbacks history. The record is held by Luis Gonzalez with a 30-game streak in 1999.
Frelick gave Milwaukee an early lead when he homered in the second inning off Merrill Kelly. This was Milwaukee’s first homer since April 18, ending their longest drought since August 1999, when they went 13 games without a homer.
The Brewers extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning with a two-out single from Joey Ortiz. Arizona cut the margin to 3-2 in the fifth, but Milwaukee responded with two runs of their own.
The game got out of hand in the sixth inning as Milwaukee scored eight more runs. Contreras and Jake Bauers each hit two-run singles, while Hamilton added a two-run double.
Jake Woodford pitched the final three innings for his first save.
Eduardo Rodríguez will start for Arizona and Brandon Sproat for Milwaukee in Wednesday’s game.
