Budget Session Extended by a Day: White Paper on Indian Economy to be Presented

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced on February 7 that the Budget session of Parliament would be extended by a day, concluding on February 10 instead of February 9 as originally scheduled. This extension allows for the completion of pending agenda items, including discussions on the Finance Bill, budget deliberations, and demands for grants.

Additionally, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi revealed the government’s plan to table a ‘white paper’ comparing the state of the Indian economy before and after 2014, marking the BJP’s rise to power. The white paper aims to highlight the economic condition inherited by the current government from the Congress-led UPA regime and the subsequent turnaround achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the white paper in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, emphasizing the government’s narrative on economic progress. While it’s uncommon for Parliament to convene on weekends, past instances have seen sessions held on Saturdays to address pressing matters.
