Chennai Auto LPG Shortage Hits Drivers and Commuters

In Chennai, a shortage of auto liquefied petroleum gas is causing serious problems for transport services. Thousands of autorickshaw drivers are facing long waiting times and are unsure about when they will get fuel.

The city has around 40,000 LPG-run autorickshaws, but only about 38 fuel stations are available to serve them. This big gap between demand and supply has made the situation difficult for drivers.

Because of the shortage, drivers are standing in long queues at the few working fuel stations. In many areas, they have to wait for four to six hours just to refill their vehicles. Some queues have become very long, affecting their daily work.

The problem has become worse because many private LPG stations are closed due to lack of stock. This has increased pressure on government-run fuel stations, where most drivers are now forced to go.

Drivers say the situation is affecting their income badly. Spending hours in queues means they lose valuable working time and earn less money. Many of them have requested the authorities to take quick action to improve fuel supply and increase the number of stations.

This shortage is not only troubling drivers but also affecting passengers who depend on autorickshaws for daily travel. The situation shows the need for a better and more reliable fuel supply system in the city.
