Chennai Corporation to Introduce Enhanced Parking Management System Across Zones

The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to introduce an upgraded parking management system for all roads in the city, with plans to launch tenders shortly. The existing contract for the system is due to expire in October 2023. In a review meeting led by Mayor R. Priya, various options for enhancing the parking system were discussed, with Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan also present.

The city currently has 5,000 parking slots managed by private service providers in specific locations, while the Corporation has identified 12,000 parking slots across 15 zones. Infrastructure projects like the Metro Rail and flood-mitigation initiatives have reduced available parking space.

The Mayor urged officials to streamline the system and remove damaged vehicles parked along roads. Additionally, the Corporation plans to implement cashless transactions by integrating all parking facilities, with a final decision expected after October. The formulation of a comprehensive parking policy for the city is also in progress.
